Immerse yourself in practical leaning in our fully equipped gymnasiums at our Perth or Joondalup campuses located just five minutes walk from the train line.

We offer real world knowledge to plan and conduct fitness programs for a variety of clients and to build up your communication, organisation and time management skills through our locally, and nationally qualified team of lecturers.

You will learn about the roles of fitness instruction and exercise science while gaining an overview of work performance in the industry. You will undertake Industry relevant learning in areas that include; anatomy, physiology, appraisals and programming, analysis of risk, responding to emergency situations and the maintenance of equipment.

As part of this qualification, you will undertake a supervised work placement in the Fitness Industry where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned.

Participants will learn about the role of fitness instructors and gain an overview of work in the industry.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Recognise and apply exercise considerations for specific groups or individuals
  • Incorporate anatomy and physiology principles into fitness programming
  • Provide health screening and fitness orientation
  • Provide healthy eating information
  • Maintain equipment for activities
  • Analyse risks and respond to emergency situations

As part of this qualification, participants are required to undertake a supervised work placement where there will be able to apply the skills and knowledge learned.

The Certificate III in Fitness is the first qualification you need if you want to kick-start your career in this thriving industry.

Build your practical technique in our state-of-the-art onsite gymnasium at Murdoch and be guided by our expert professional lecturers in the field. On completion of the course, you’ll be job ready to become a gym instructor or group exercise instructor at a gymnasium or recreation centre.  

A gym instructor welcomes new members to the gym and develops specially tailored programs to achieve fitness goals, whilst a group exercise instructor leads a class through a specialised exercise routine or bootcamp. 

Learn about the function of exercise instruction, assessing fitness levels and how to deliver fun, high-energy, group exercise sessions and design effective training programs for a range of age groups. 

The length of the course provides you the time to develop a strong skillset, while face-to-face training means graduates are highly regarded in the fitness industry for their depth of knowledge and well-practised skills. You can study on campus full-time (3.5 days per week), or, on-campus (2 days per week) with self-paced work completed online to support your on-campus study.

Learn in our state-of-the-art, fully equipped onsite gymnasium that reflects current industry practices and simulates a real-life commercial gym, featuring resistance machines, cable machines, free weights, cardio machines, shower and locker facilities. 

 

This course aims to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to be a qualified group exercise instructor or gym instructor.

Build your practical technique in our onsite gym while you learn about the function of exercise instruction, assessing fitness levels and how to deliver fun, high-energy, group exercise sessions and design effective training programs for different client groups.

By completing this course, you will be prepared to explore a range of career opportunities in the fitness industry. Should you prefer further study, you will also gain a solid pathway to continue your study into the Certificate IV in Fitness.
