You will gain the skills and knowledge to prepare financial reports and statements as well as manage accounting systems. You will also learn to how to establish and maintain payroll systems.  We provide a practical approach to learning which allows students the ability to apply what they have learned in a setting that simulates a real-life workplace. 

This nationally recognised qualification is a requirement in order to apply for BAS (Business Activity Statement) Registration and is recognised by the Australian Taxation Practitioners Board.

Overview

This course provides the latest insights into the accounting processes required for a business. It prepares you for work as a payroll clerk or bookkeeper.

You'll learn how to set up and maintain computerised accounts, establish payroll systems, maintain inventory records, prepare financial reports on the financial position and performance of the business, prepare and lodge business and instalment activity statements, perform monthly reconciliation statements, prepare budgets and provide advice to taxpayers in relation to activity statements.

You will graduate with current, practical bookkeeping and accounting skills attractive to prospective employers. Successful completion of the course meets the Tax Practitioners Board academic requirements for registration as a BAS agent and prepares you for entry into the Diploma of Accounting.

It includes preparing and lodging business and instalment activity statements, data processing, monthly reconciliations, preparing budgets, preparing reports on financial performance and the position of the business, preparing end-of-year adjustments, and finalising financial records after year-end.

Liaising with the Commissioner of Taxation and advocating for taxpayers in relation to activity statements and other lodgement matters is also a key component of the role that this qualification reflects.

When you complete this course you will be ready for a career in the accounting industry in roles such as BAS Agents and contract bookkeepers; and of those employees performing bookkeeping tasks for organisations in a range of industries.

You will have the skills and knowledge to prepare and lodge business and instalment activity statements. Individuals in these roles apply theoretical and specialist knowledge and skills to work autonomously, and exercise judgement in completing routine and non-routine activities. Units studied include XERO software for setting up a computerised accounting system and processing payroll. This qualification would also suit candidates wishing to work towards BAS agent registration (Refer to Tax Practitioners Board for current requirements).
