This free skill set is designed to give you job ready skills in infection prevention and control procedures, including implementing standard and transmission-based precautions and responding to infection risks for working in a retail setting.

The skills and knowledge from this skill set can be applied to specific industry settings and workplaces such as supermarkets, specialty stores and department stores, community stores, shopping centres, cinemas and game arcades, petrol stations, and retail areas within beauty salons, gyms and hairdressing salons. In these unprecedented times, new regulations need workers in retail businesses to manage infection control. 

Skills can be applied to specific retail industry needs such as stand alone stores, shopping centres, cinemas and game arcades, petrol stations and convenience stores, supermarkets, retail areas within beauty salons, hairdressing salons, barbers and sporting facilities including gyms, markets and museums and galleries.

You will learn about following organisational infection prevention and control procedures including implementing standard and transmission-based precautions and responding to infection risks. 

As part of this course students will complete:

  • Course pre-reading requirements
  • 1 day workshop on campus
  • Workplace assessment - The lecturer will visit the student at their workplace at an agreed date/time.

Protect yourself and others in the retail sector from infectious diseases

The pandemic has highlighted the importance of building the capacity and understanding of the workforce to practice safe infection control procedures. This skill set will provide you with the skills and knowledge to assist in protecting yourself and others in the community from infectious diseases. 

You will understand how infections are spread, ways of preventing the spread of infection and how to protect yourself and others from infection.  It is most suited for those that are working in the retail sector.

This online course allows you to undertake studies within your own timeframe. You will receive a short induction and ongoing support from your lecturer. Once you have completed the online study component you will be required to book into a four hour practical lab session at our Mount Lawley campus where you will practice skills and undertake a workplace assessment.

Please note this skill set will be run subject to enrolment numbers.
